Impressive growth aside, Newegg also has strong roots and a history of success prior to its establishment making it one of the most stable .com enterprises. Founders Fred Chang and Ken Lam created Newegg initially as a subsidiary of ABS Computer Technologies, Inc., a computer systems integrator headquartered in California since 1991. The concept was simple: service the do-it-yourself customer. At the time ABS had to turn down numerous requests for upgrade components to their existing ABS PCs which indicated a strong demand and a whole new market for the company to explore. Those predictions were correct and Newegg not only survived but flourished through historically one the toughest periods for the Internet market - the .com crash in 2001. ABS Computers is now a subsidiary of Newegg.
