    Folding@Home
Maybe you've seen the blog or the posts asking you to "Cure Disease with your PC" or "Help A Great Cause." Skeptical? Don't be. Stanford University is leading a distributive computing project called Folding@Home, where the goal is to shed light on the mysteries of protein folding--and therefore misfolding, which results in many common diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow, Parkinson's, Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, and many cancers.

    Intrigued? You can help.

All it takes is a simple download and install of the F@H software (available at the Stanford University F@H site), which runs in the background of your computer--or even PS3 console. In fact, Stanford estimates that, if you choose to run your CPU 24/7 (which isn't necessary, but will net you more points), it will only cost about $0.36 a day. A small price to pay for changing the future of medicine.

If the thought of humanitarian efforts doesn't do it for you, you can always just compete against others for the honor of being the sickest folder in town! Stats are available to see how many WUs you've completed, how many your team's completed (Team EggXpert is #70567, if you're interested in joining us), and how well your team's doing overall, so you can keep track. If nothing else, it'll give you an excuse to buy that monster new processor you've been eyeing.

For more information, check out Stanford's F@H site or the EggXpert Folding@Home FAQ page.

    Scavenger Hunt 2

OK, everyone. It's time to dust off those fedoras once again. This time, we've upped the ante (hopefully, this hunt'll make you sweat a little).

The rules are the same as last time: Be the first to find the following items somewhere (anywhere!) on EggXpert.com and submit your answers to us. For each answer, include the URL where you found the item, along with a short description of where on the page it's located (e.g., "lower right corner of the white box" or "in the post by JCarlos dated 7/31/07"). Please be sure to include your forum name in your email, too (no forum name means you forfeit your win).

Finally, keep in mind that there might be multiple correct answers for each of the items in our hunt. The first treasure hunter to correctly identify all seven (or who has the highest number of correct answers, in case no one's able to find all of the items), as determined by our judges, will receive the "EggXpert Hunter" badge to include in your forum sig and the EggXpert t-shirt that's prompting all manner of weird questions at the local store.

Again, for this hunt, you may only use pages, posts and blog entries that were posted on or before 11:59 p.m. August 2, 2007.
