What type of power do you have?
- Single-phase: residences and small and medium commercial buildings; the most common type of PDU
- 3-phase: large commercial and industrial facilities
How much power capacity do you need?
- Determine how much equipment will be plugged in and how many amps will be needed to support the load, then determine the type of plug you have

- The PDU’s outlets should match the plugs on the equipment you’ll be connecting. Some PDUs offer a mix of outlet types for varying equipment connections

Where are you going to install the PDU?
- Horizontal PDUs install in rack spaces (1U-2U) but feature less outlets
- Vertical PDUs can be mounted on the back or side of racks, with long form factors to house more outlets
Do you need any special features?
- Dual-circuit PDUs provide two separate power circuits for servers with redundant power supplies
- Select models with sensor ports provide temperature, humidity and contact-closure input monitoring
