FAQ

1. Will Newegg carry Founders Editions?

No, we will only be carrying AIB (Add-In-Board) cards from ASUS, GIGABYTE, AORUS, MSI, ZOTAC and PNY.

2. Are AIB cards the same as the Founders Edition GPU?

AIB (Add-In-Board) cards (GPUs) are NVIDIA-powered GPUs from the likes of ASUS, GIGABYTE, AORUS, MSI, ZOTAC and PNY that often have more fans for better cooling, allowing for overclocked GPUs. Some cards are the same price as the Founders Edition card, while some with additional features are more expensive.

3. Are the AIB manufacturers all the same?

All cards from ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, AORUS, ZOTAC and PNY are excellent choices and offer similar levels of performance. Some cards have special features that could be important to you. Check out the manufacturer's description for the full list of features.

4. What is an overclocked GPU?

An overclocked GPU has higher GPU core clock speeds than the same model of GPU. So an RTX 5090 OC will perform slightly better than a non-OC RTX 5090. However, it's important to know that an OC model will never perform better than the model above it (for example, an RTX 5080 non-OC will always be faster than an OC RTX 5070).

5. Why are the graphics cards always sold out?

Some cards are very popular and in high demand. Cards sell out because customers purchase them as soon as they’re available for sale on Newegg.com. We expect significant demand for the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 and believe stock-outs may happen. NVIDIA & our partners are shipping more stock to retail every day to help get GPUs into the hands of gamers.

6. How can I get one of these GPUs when they are always out of stock?

Inventory will replenish in real time on our site. We recommend following Newegg social media for potential restock alerts: www.x.com/newegg

7. Will Newegg Trade in Program be allowed for 50 Series GPUs?

Yes, however starting the trade in process on an available 50 Series GPU will not hold your 50 Series in the cart, and the card may sell out before finishing the process. Please keep this in mind if you have a GPU in high demand in your cart.

8. What is DLSS 4?

DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling and is NVIDIA’s AI upscaling suite that dramatically boosts FPS (Frames Per Second) in a variety of compatible games (75 games at launch). DLSS 4 is natively included with the card and the NVIDIA app. DLSS 4 generates 3 additional frames per traditionally rendered frame. This boosts performance while also reducing VRAM usage. On the RTX 5090, users can expect stunning 4K FPS fully ray-traced gaming. While DLSS 4 is supported by 75 games at launch, more games are added regularly.

9. Should I upgrade to a new video card?

It really depends on your needs. If your monitor supports higher frame rates and resolutions than you’re currently getting, then a new 50 Series card will give you a dramatic FPS (frame rate per second) increase and/or allow you to increase resolution (for example, 1080p/120Hz to 4K/240Hz). Visit www.newegg.com/gamingpcfinder to see specific game resolution/FPS achievable with specific GPUs. Additionally, the cards come with new features for generative AI as well as content creation, leveraging AI to perform tasks better and faster. The 50 Series cards also feature Display Port 2.1 by default. DP 2.1 allows for a new generation of monitors that support native 4K resolution at 240Hz (which allows for 240 Frames Per Second). With DLSS 4, many top titles are now able to achieve this higher resolution and refresh rate.

10. Do I need to buy a new PSU?

While these cards have higher power requirements than last gen cards, your PSU (Power Supply Unit) requirements really depend on your current PSU and the card you’re purchasing. If you’re coming from the 40 series of cards, chances are you already have a high-power PSU. Double check your system’s power and desired card using www.newegg.com/pcbuilder. Both ATX 3.0 and 3.1 PSUs will work with 50 Series GPUs, though the ATX 3.1 models will provide native cables that work with the card, eliminating the need for a separate adapter. Additionally, we recommend a PCIe CEM 5.1 Compliant PSU. Below are NVIDIA's power specs for the 50 Series cards:

RTX 5090

RTX 5080

RTX 5070 Ti

RTX 5070

Total Graphics/Card Power

575W 360W 300W 250W

Required PSU Power

1000W 850W 750W 650W

11. What monitors are best to match with 50 series cards?

Because the new cards have Display Port 2.1 built in, you may want to upgrade to a new monitor with DP 2.1. Monitors with DP 2.1 will allow for native 4k 240Hz (240 FPS) gaming, which will be achievable with many AAA game titles. Otherwise, the new GPUs don’t require a new monitor and will work with any monitor that has DP or HDMI.

12. Will this card fit in my case?

Cards come in a variety of sizes depending on cooling – typically, the more expensive cards are much larger. If you have a 40 Series card, chances are the new card will be the same size or even smaller. Check www.newegg.com/pcbuilder to see what cards are compatible with your case.

13. Do I need a GPU holder/support?

It’s always a good idea to support your GPU, especially if it’s an extra-large model. Support is not technically needed, but if you’re moving your PC, definitely consider a GPU support. Brackets may be included with your PC case. Otherwise, GPU support brackets and braces can be found here.

14. How many Frames Per Second will I get with a new card?

The new 50 Series cards have a massive frame rat e increase compared to previous gen cards on supported games. You can achieve 240 FPS on 4K with many games and, for esports titles, you can achieve much higher FPS.

15. Do I need a new motherboard? CPU? RAM?

You likely won't need new hardware if you have a modern PC and are upgrading from a GPU purchased in the last several years. You should check if your PSU (Power Supply Unit) has sufficient power and note that your CPU, if an older and slower model, may bottleneck the GPU's performance. Check out www.newegg.com/pcbuilder for recommended components and visit www.newegg.com/gamingpcfinder to see your projected FPS performance.
